Light Speed Individual Open Buzzer Quiz: News 15: 16th November 2003
Following the Belgian International at the same venue on Saturday (Details), The first ever intercalcated tournament took place in the luxurious Bromley Court Hotel. The best was there, but a few deflated UK players had homes to go to, so only four games were played. Once again the awesome Kevin Ashman stamped his authority on the competition, but not before the St Wilfred's old boys association of Carey and Kidd had got close to him in two of their games. It was good to have rookie Phil Smith from the London Quiz league make his debut, and special mention must be made of Lars, Jo and Koen who represented Belgium, conquering language to emphasise what strength in depth there is over there.
Steve Kidd set the record quick buzz in terms of length of question when a lucky buzz on "Io" gave him the opportunity to correctly guess "Jupiter" - Beat that you Southern Jessies!
Though not official, the Saturday night saw the assemblage in the Ravenscroft Suite of a small galaxy of Quiz Stars. A dozen or so buzzered into the wee small hours, and phew!. the legends came through. It was worth the trip to London for this alone. There was no real 'result', but Barry Simmons did manage to stick it into some very notable names. Bromley's specialist round ( "The 50 most famous things about UK number one hits from 1978") was not played, but instead has been saved for Friday Night at The Ferryboat (see below) |
November 30th: Quiz weekend at Oxford - LSQ at the Antiquity Hall, 10A.M. Sunday 30th
Unbridled joy at the prospect of another fantastic Rob Linham event all day Saturday followed by LSQ at Goth central! The pub has cheap beer, good dinners, fab boss (Hannah) and smells beautiful. (set your stall out to get luch here).
The specialist round will be
