Light Speed Individual Open Buzzer Quiz: News 24: 20th March 2004
28th March 2004 Event. Todmorden, east east Lancashire, west west Yorkshire, 11:00 AM
Dave Tilley of the Todmorden League has organised a venue at the Todmorden Consevative Club. Toddy is a lovely small town and the place should not be difficult to find. It is on Fielden Square, on Rochdale Road, just by the Safeway supermarket, where there is a large amount of parking (Map). I have it on good authority that the steward is also putting some food on. There will be a few new faces here and it is conveniently on the border between Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Along with the rookies there will be some rule changes (see below) which are intended to make procedings a little slicker, will accentuate handicap advantage and increase the random element. A lot to look forward to.
Don't forget to put your clocks forward!
Rule and format changes.
Handicaps
Henceforth will be calculated as before, but for game play will be rounded to the nearest whole number
Game length
Games must be shorter if we are going to accomodate more players, therefore therefore games will be trialed at first to 15. It is hoped that the shortening of the games will have the effect of making the handicaps bite a little harder, and making resuts slightly more random (without, of course, retaing the element of skill so critical to success)
Rankings
A ranking system has now been added whereby player one gets ten ranking points, player two nine and so on down to anybody on tenth or worse gets one ranking point for the 2004 season. For the end of season Rankings, rank will be awarded by considering sequentially
2004 Rankings after Game 1 | |
---|---|
Name | Points |
Pat Gibson | 10 |
Steve Kidd | 9 |
David Edwards | 8 |
Jim Prendergast | 7 |
Alan Gibbs | 6 |
Lee Warburton | 5 |
Venues
efforts will be made to secure venues with some intrinsic quality for visitors, e.g., museums, parks, sites of special interest etc. Any suggestions are most welcome
