Light Speed Individual Open Buzzer Quiz: News 27: 5th May 2004

He's eating my lunchPat Gibson, What Happened to Oxford? And Next Event

First things first: Pat Gibson, who has been one of the rocks of LSQ became the 4th person to win £1,000,000 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Mark Kerr reciprocated Pat’s phone a friend role, but I’m sure was relieved when a confident Pat rang with the last question having whittled it down to a 50/50. The event has been well-publicised (see below) and I have nothing to add apart from echoing the sentiments of all who know Pat – It couldn’t happen to a nicer man. Well done Pat!

What Happened to Oxford?

I was sorry to cancel the last event, but I will now explain why. On Wednesday I had had a call back for Millionaire, the call back question being “How long is Exeter Cathedral”. I guessed 400 feet, but was wrong – it is around 390 feet. 50 people are called back with different questions, the ten closest answers being invited onto the show. I was told “Well done, we will phone Saturday if you are on the show”. Naturally I thought I was going to be on Monday’s show (which is why people like the perceptive Sean Carey may have noticed me not quite at Saturday’s event). I had to cancel Sunday. It was not until 7 PM Saturday that I discovered my answer was “over a second late”. – It couldn’t happen to a nicer man!

Next Event

James Webb has organised a venue for Farnborough on Sunday 23rd May. More details will be forthcoming, but it will be an opportunity for you guys down south to make one in
